The Mary Street Information
Booth began operation on the 1st August, 1995 to promote businesses in Gympie
as well as tourist information for visitors.
It was of steel construction, which served its purpose until this new information
booth was built.
The booth is manned by volunteers on a roster system and was managed by the Main Street Committee until 1998. It was then taken over by the Gympie Central Business Association, now known as Gympie Business Association. The information booth has also changed. Volunteers from the Mary Valley Heritage Railway have spent many long hours constructing a replica railway carriage of days gone by.
Their dedication and attention to detail has made the new information booth a tourist attraction in its own right. The carriage is outside the "Gympie News" newsagency with a mural of a tunnel. It looks like the train going into the tunnel.
The information consists
of a list of businesses in Gympie, Clubs, Services and Tourist attractions.
You can also receive a free street map of Gympie. If you are looking for information
about the Gympie area, you can contact the Mary Street Information Booth by
phone on
(07) 5481 2736.
